A steel building erector is an individual who is responsible for the successful and efficient construction of prefabricated steel buildings. These individuals must be highly hands-on with what they have been trusted to do. People who work in this position will have to know a metal building erection inside out. 

They have to work well in a team environment to complete the project successfully. It is authoritative that steel building erectors are physically strong since they exert lots of physical energy. There are some essential duties that steel building erectors should have:


 

  • Determine the type of support required by interpreting and reading building designs and schematics. 
  • They are identifying materials and labor needed for the project and making all the arrangements to acquire both of them. 
  • They provide effective communication with the suppliers to ensure timely delivery of the equipment and supplies. 
  • Prepare all the materials and calibrate the machinery before undertaking building erection tasks. 
  • Install all metal parts by positioning them in place with cranes and telehandlers. 
  • Install standing seam roof and fiberglass insulation.
  • Rig metal objects within the work area to ensure the exact positioning. 
  • Following set instructions, move and guide metal loads into the position. 
  • Weld and bolt metal work together and ensure that all the sections are correctly leveled. 
  • Conduct demolition work to renovate or pull-down steel structures. 
  • Cut, weld, and melt sections and rods using metal shears, welding equipment, and torches. 
  • They use jacks, crowbars, and tools to force metal structural components into particular places.
  • Install sealing wiring, strips, and insulation materials with reinforcement bars. 
  • They erect precast concrete components for metal structures such as bridges and buildings. 
  • Make sure that the metal structures are aligned vertically and horizontally using plumb bobs and laser equipment.
  • Assembling all the hoisting types of equipment or rigging that includes cables, pulleys, and hooks to ensure easy and secure motion.
